Piezo Cones

Piezo cones incorporate a pore-pressure sensor (u2), along with qc, fs and inclination, allowing highly accurate identification of very thin soil layers and differentiation between similar soil types. Piezocones also enable dissipation testing, where the dissipation of excess pore pressures is measured to estimate parameters for coefficient of consolidation and rough estimates of permeability. Black Insitu Testing operate two types of piezocones - a 100 MPa (qc) cone is used for most jobs, and where extremely accurate results are required in soft soils, a high-sensitivity 10 MPa (qc) can be used.
