Seismic Dilatometer Marchetti Test (SDMT)

Seismic Dilatometer Marchetti Test (SDMT) consists of a robust blade containing a membrane flush to the soil which is pushed into the ground (up to 40m depth depending on soil conditions). At regular intervals, the membrane is expanded by means of pressurised gas and the response measured. Adjacent to the membrane is a seismic module which measures shear wave velocities.

The SDMT can therefore measure Small Strain Shear Modulus (G), Dilatometer Modulus (Emax) and Constrained Modulus (MD) directly. Soil shear strength, settlement predictions and liquefaction potentials can be measured, plus much more. The seismic module may be operated without the dilatometer, if required.
